Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers - was born on July 8, 1989 in Paris. The couple relocated to Oxfordshire when she was five and enrolled in an academy called the Dragon School. Emma chose to be an actor at age six. For several years she was enrolled in the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. There she learned singing as well as dancing, and also acting. By the time she turned 10, Emma had taken part in a variety of Stagecoach productions and plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, the 2001 film adaption of J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was filmed in 1999. Emma was found by agents through her Oxford teacher. David Heyman announced to Emma that after eight consecutive auditions, she as well as Rupert Grint were chosen as Hermione and Harry Potter. The film's release Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's cinematic screen debut. It was the highest-grossing film of 2001 The film broke records for its debut day revenue as well as opening weekend takings.
